Rob Elmes Pre Match Talk Nuneaton
We have had a great response from the players since our fifth draw in a row away at Evesham with back to back victories against Truro and Hemel Hempstead. The Truro game saw us play some of our best football for sometime and we created a number of chances. The fact that we had a two goal cushion for the first time in weeks enabled us to settle down a bit although the last five minutes of that game, when we were 3-2 up, were probably the least enjoyable minutes of the entire season.
Evesham are a quality team and we were hanging on, desperate for the points and when their striker hit a volley at his own player from 5 yards out with the last kick of the game it was possibly the bit of luck that we deserved of late. In addition it is always good to see your strikers on the score sheet. To take 6 points off Truro this season is no mean feat as they will win more than they lose between now and the end of the season.
Saturday’s win at Hemel Hempstead was richly deserved. Matt and I watched Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday night and were very impressed with them. A very tidy footballing team that looked good going forward if a little suspect at the back. We felt that if we could soak up their pressure we could trouble them going forward.
On the day, although they scored three goals against us, two of which would probably be contenders for goal of the season, we could have scored three times that many. Stefan was nigh on unplayable on the day and his hat trick was no more than he deserved although he could have had twice that many. Nevertheless his return to form has seen us get back to winning ways – more than a coincidence methinks!
As for tonight’s game, Nuneaton will prove a stern test. They are the only team to beat us at home this season and we will have to be at our best to get the better of them. One thing is for sure – we will need you to be at your most vociferous best to help us secure all three points and help us climb up into the play-off places.
Up the Yeltz!
