Rob Elmes Pre Match Talk
Our return to action on Saturday after a month lay-off could not have been tougher. I thought we started the brighter and were given a real boost after they were reduced to ten men after just a couple of minutes. Sometimes when you play against ten men it can be a curse rather than a blessing. Farnborough have quality all over the pitch and to their credit continued to play two up front in spite of this set back. Their goal was a disappointing one from our point of view to concede as we had enough defenders to deal with the cross but we deservedly equalised through Simon’s well taken goal a few minutes later.
From that point we dominated the possession as one would expect with the player advantage but just didn’t have the quality or run of the ball in the box to score the winner. The fact that we hadn’t played for so long obviously did not help but we did create enough openings to have scored a couple more goals. The overriding emotion in the dressing room after the game was of disappointment – that they were there for the taking and that we had let them off the hook. Having said that we would have been reasonably satisfied with a point before kick off.
Clevedon Tuesday 7:45
From our point of view we want to replicate our performance from the first half we had against Clevedon back in November rather than the second! That was indeed your archetypal game of two halves!
Having drawn Saturday it makes it all the more important to go all out on Tuesday. This will provide another stern test of our credentials and we will have to be at our best to secure the three points. However we know that if we can gain the same amount of points in the second half of the season as we did in the first then that should be good enough.
Enjoy the Game
